Incoming links through charitable contributions!

One of the best ways to boost rankings for a site and to raise the credibility in the eyes of the Search engines is to get Incoming Links from .Edu .Gov, .Org or  non-profit organization sites.
Ironically, these are some of the hardest links to come by as most of these sites have no interest in linking to your site…Unless your company or client makes a significant contribution to a certain non-profit or non-commercial site and can request the site to link to your or your client’s website.

Recently, Page1 managed to do this and we will receive a link from http://www.thesecondwindfund.org/ in return for contributing to their fund raising efforts.

Many organizations contribute similarly and optimizers should not lose any opportunity to remind the Account managers that they in turn should keep reminding their clients to seek out and utilize such opportunities to get incoming links to their sites. It’s a win-win situation for all involved in this process.

Google’s Version of Wikipedia, the “knol”

Millions of people on this planet possess lots of useful knowledge. How wonderful would it be if they were able to share that in an authoritative approach? The Google “knol”, which stands for a unit of knowledge holds a similar concept to Wikipedia where people contribute their knowledge to a particular subject - from politics to entertainment to a theory. The difference between Wikipedia and Google knol is that the knol highlights and give credit to the authors and also allows the author to include ads. It is said that Google will provide the author with substantial revenue share from the proceeds of those ads.

Google’s creation and expectation of the knol was so that when a searcher searches for a topic, the knol will be the first thing the searcher would want to read on that topic. Unlike the search engines, Google will not serve as an editor in any way and will not bless any content on the knoll but the reputations of its authors are on the line. The unveiling of the Google knol is making waves and just might take over Wikipedia.

As for SEO, we can’t help to wonder if the knol will boost your webpage by acting as an additional linkbuilding tool and make profits for your site! Stay tuned for an update on the knol.

Google Testing More Personalized Search

Google has been working more and more with personalized searching and evidence of this is a new experiment they are testing. Basically, this new experiment functions in a a “Digg” sort of way, in which a user can search Google’s results and press a button if they “like” or “dislike” the results that have shown. If you promote the search, it will move to the top of the page and if you press the “X” button, the results will disappear from the results all together.

At the bottom of the search results page, you can also submit a website that you feel is more relevant to your search and when you search for those keywords in the future, that page will appear at the top with a marker next to it. In order for this function to work, you must be signed in. These changes obviously don’t affect what other users see when they search for those keywords, but it may have an effect in the future. Once Google starts to see the search results that people like to see being pushed to the top, they may incorporate something into their algorithm to the same for natural listings. Definitely not good news for spammers, but for the rest of us, it’s great news indeed.

You can check out the Google Experiment Search page if you want to learn more. I can’t seem to find a way to sign up for this yet on the Google Experiments page, so you might just have to keep an eye out.

The Importance of Calls to Action

Trying to gain business online is usually the primary goal of companies and businesses that have their presence on the web and many of them spend a lot of time and money on changing the website design and adding fancy effects.

Yet, many of them forget a very important aspect of web marketing — Making a compelling offer on the site!

In today’s ultra competitive world it’s not easy to stand out among your competitors. A viewer has dozens of choices to choose from, and with a simple click of a mouse, he or she can move onto another site.

Hence it is important that your site conveys Value and does it quickly and very clearly. It is a misconception that viewers will get the obvious value that the owner knows the business provides. There’s no apparent reason why someone should select your business from the competition, because often you’ve made no express offer at all.

If you can make any kind of offers like promotional discounts, free consultations, financing options or special deals, make sure that it’s there for the viewer to see. Add it to Titles and if possible add it the Home page of your site. Also make sure that you keep the information updated. Sites, which promote offers that have expired, portray an unprofessional attitude.

So keep in mind, Start making offers and make them loud and clear on your site if you want to see the clicks on your site convert into business deals.
