Google Finally Making Money on YouTube

When it was first announced that Google had purchased YouTube, an online video provider, many people thought that it was one of the dumbest mistakes they could have made. The reason being that YouTube wasn’t much of a money maker and YouTube was in the middle of several copyright infringement lawsuits.

Now YouTube has begun to show advertising on certain videos of the website. Google has allowed 20 companies to run trial advertisements on videos over the last few weeks and results seem to be very effective. YouTube has claimed that the advertisements are five to ten times more effective than other forms of display advertising. YouTube has also reported to find that 75% of people who clicked on the ad watched the entire advertisement. Sounds pretty good.

The ads aren’t all that intrusive either. If you watch much television, you’ve no doubt noticed that some channels will display very small advertising at the bottom of the screen during the show you are watching. That’s exactly how YouTube’s ads work. They show up at the bottom and if you click it, the video you are watching will pause, allowing you to watch the ad, and then when the ad is over, you can resume watching the YouTube video. Ads are also placed at the very end of the video as well where they show related videos. The ads don’t seem to show for everybody though and may be geotargeted but you may have luck with the Madison Lake - House of Cards video.
